Y10 @ Nettlecombe

Year 10 have had a busy couple of days packed full of geography learning in Somerset (and are now relaxing by playing football on the front lawn!).

Yesterday was a long day - starting off at school at 6:30am - well done to everyone for getting out of bed on time! Arriving in Minehead at about 1:30pm we met our Nettlecombe Field Studies Staff who took us round the seafront of Minehead doing some activities including field sketches, cost benefit analyses and questionnaires. We even fitted in time for an ice cream!

10A listening to Liam explaining about the coastal defences at Minehead
All groups have also had chance to have a look at the centre's weather station so some good revision on last term's work.

Having a look at Nettlecombe Stevenson Screen

Today was a particularly important day for our 10s as we spent it gathering data on the River Holford. This data is going to be used for their coursework (27.5% of the course). We had 4 classes out, each with about 6 groups gathering data at 12 sites. The weather has been very kind to us - glorious sunshine. The data is already loaded onto the spreadsheets and we're ready to do some analysis this evening!

We're off to Taunton tomorrow to see their river defences - it will be interesting to see what they've done compared to Chelmsford (which this year group studied in yr8). Then a long coach journey back!
