Week 1: 27th September 2018

We recorded the rainfall at two different sites. The first site was the KEGS Maths Garden. This is a circular garden set in a courtyard. It is quite open, but there is a lot of large foliage. We recorded 155ml of rainfall here.

The second location was on bare soil in the corner of the field. This is a wide open space with no trees. Here we recorded 90ml of rainfall.

The rain gauge at our third site was vandalised, thus we could not collect results from it. We have now made sure that students do not have access to any of our sites.

As you can see, there is a significant difference between the two readings. This is likely because the field is much more open, so is more susceptible to heat and so evaporation.
