Today Year 10 have spent their first day of their
residential field trip to Nettlecombe in Somerset on travelling followed by
river or weather work. Thankfully most of the rain occurred whilst travelling
and we had an almost completely dry afternoon.
Mrs Revell’s and Dr Hitch’s groups spent the afternoon
measuring infiltration rates using infiltration tables and in the field,
considering the different types of surfaces. They also considered the role of
the Stevenson Screen and how we use the instruments inside them.
Miss Fryer’s group (one that Mrs Revell teaches) spent the
afternoon down at a river close to Nettlecombe – considering the differences
between straight and meandering sections of the river along with the different
processes that occur. This was followed up with creating cross sections in the
classroom in the evening.

Finally we finished the evening work with considering what
we are going to be looking at tomorrow in Minehead regarding the coursework…looking
at coastal management.
The students have worked really well today so we’re looking
forward to another successful day tomorrow!
