Canadian earthquake and Hawaii tsunami warning

An earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude on the Richter Scale has occurred 125miles (200km) south west of Prince Rupert in British Columbia, Canada, at 3am GMT 28th October 2012. No major damage has been reported so far however tsunami warnings were issued - with tsunamis having the potential to cause the most damage.

Both the British Columbia and Alaska coasts, along with Hawaii were given tsunami warnings from the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Centre and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre. British Columbia and Alaska have now been downgraded to an Advisory - the waves experienced so far have only amounted to less than 50cm height.

However the tsunami warning continues to remain in place for Hawaii with the tsunami expected at 0828 GMT. The highest amplitude of waves so far has been at Arena Cove California at 0.32m (every 6 minutes).
